Charity Night 2020
(date to be confirmed)

Do you fancy being wined and dined for Charity?

It has long been a plan between Dave and Phil to host a charity event – the two of them in the kitchen, while Fern and her girls host. With a friendship spanning over 15 years, you can imagine how many conversations have been had and plans hatched. Finally, with a few tweaks, we are happy to announce all that planning has led to a charity dinner in the first half of 2020 (date to be confirmed). It was always the idea to have two charities supported by this event: one charity chosen by Phil and family, and the second, a local group selected by Dave.

Fern, Phil and clan have been regular customers at The Basement since the very beginning, so are ecstatic to be taking part.

Have you a Passion for Cornish Food and Drink?

Why not enjoy the 4 decades of hosting experience Fern Britton will supply, while talking you through Phil Vickery’s specially curated 6 course menu, expertly cooked by The Basement’s own chefs (if we can get phill aways from his pigs he will be in kitchen as well).

If that is not enough to tantalise, savour pork from Phil’s hand reared pigs, fish direct from the Cornish market via M. Stevens, cheese and cream donated by Rodda’s and an exclusively designed wine menu from Bin Two: Padstow’s leading wine merchant.

The next generation of Padstow

Dave has chosen an often overlooked demographic here in Padstow, the youth. He has particular drive to support the baby and toddler groups, as he himself now has a young daughter. The baby and toddler group and Padstow Pre-School are therefore our chosen beneficiaries. The young people of Padstow are the future of our little harbour town and we hope that a little extra from us will provided a much needed boost.

Phil and Fern, while not being locals in the past, have brought their four children here every summer for the last 22 years. They too believe in the importance of our youth and are excited to raise funds on their behalf.

Phil and family have chosen the VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas): a charity that has been sending young people abroad to assist in their mission to rid the world of poverty since 1958. Fern and Phil’s daughter – a waitress here at The Basement – will be leaving us in Januaray to volunteer in a northern region of Bangladesh. The goal there is to educate women in female hygiene and health, as well as to better understand their rights. This is critical work, as Bangladesh has the highest rate of girls married under the age of 15 in the world.
